WYBA Code Of Conduct for Players

As a player for the Westonka Youth Baseball Association, I agree to:

  • Respect my manager and coaches. The managers and coaches are volunteers who donate their time to our organization and my appreciation of their help should be reflected in all my actions on the playing field.  It is my duty to listen to and follow the directions of my manager and coaches and to obey the rules set forth by the manager and coaches of the teams.
  • Respect my team members and other players.  I will not insult, criticize or verbally abuse any other player. This includes moments even if we are “just kidding around”. This not only includes behavior on the field, dugouts, at tournaments or in travel, but everywhere I go.  Such behavior does not promote but destroys team spirit and will not be tolerated by the Westonka Youth Baseball Association.
  • Display good sportsmanship at all times.  As a representative of the Westonka Youth Baseball Association, it is my duty to reflect the characteristics of fair play at all times.  I will be respectful to other teams, coaches and umpires. I will not disagree with an umpires call nor will I verbally taunt or comment on another team’s players or coaches.  Should there be a controversial call, I will leave the resolution to my coach.  I will display to others that competition is healthy and I will not lower the standards of the Westonka Youth Baseball Association by engaging in unsportsmanlike conduct.
  • Be a contributor to the Westonka Youth Baseball Association.  I will play baseball not only for my own personal pleasure and benefit but for the benefit of the Westonka Youth Baseball Association.  I will always give 100% to my team by doing the best job that I can.  I will make every effort to attend all scheduled practice and games, and to be on-time.  If my parents cannot get me to a practice or game, I will help to find a ride with another teammate.  I will not use electronic devices (for example: I-pods, MP3s, cell phones) during games or practices.
  • Never resort to physical threats or actions to rectify a situation.  Physical outbursts are unacceptable and will be dealt with using a zero-tolerance policy.  Any occurrence will be immediately directed to the Administrative Board.
  • Never use foul, abusive or negative language.
  • Not use tobacco products, alcohol, or non-prescribed drugs of any kind.
  • Maintain an active eligible status in my school.  This means that I will maintain acceptable grades and behavior at school.  If I am suspended from school or my Spring School Ball league, it may affect my ability to play WYBA Summer Ball.
I understand that violations of these principles can result in any or all of the following consequences according to the decision of the head coach or assistant coach of my team:

  • Being assigned additional responsibilities at a practice or game.

  • Being “benched” for part of a game, an entire game, or a series of games.

  • Being suspended from the team for a game or a series of games.

  • Having my actions reviewed by the Administrative Board of the Westonka Youth Baseball Association.

WYBA Code of Conduct for Parents

As a parent of a Westonka Youth Baseball Association athlete, I understand that my actions are important to the success of my child as well as the overall success of the baseball program.  I promise to:

  • Promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire to win.
  • I will remember that my child plays Baseball for his/her enjoyment, not mine. I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participant for making a mistake or
blame my child’s teammates for placement in a game or tournament.
  • I will encourage good sportsmanship through my actions, by demonstrating positivesupport for all players, coaches, and parents.  I will treat all people respectfully by not using foul language.
  • I will provide support for coaches and officials working with athletes to provide a positive experience for all.  I will not question a coaching decision, argue with an umpire nor question any decision made on the field.  Should I have a concern, I will wait until after a game (at an appropriate time) contact the coach directly to share my viewpoint.
  • I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco and alcohol.

  • I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.
